City: 560 VarmahlÝ
A new camping ground was taken into operation in VarmahlÝ in the summer of 2008. It is located in the protected forest area on the southern slope of Reykjarhˇll and is open from 27 May to 12 September, opens sooner and closes later if weather permits.
The site is shelter from the prevailing north wind by the hill above the village, called Reykjarhˇll. It is also built into an old forest preserve area which means the trees are more mature than the camp site age suggests. The facilities are also very good with hot and cold water, showers five toilets and hand basins both inside and outside. We also have good access for disabled guests. The area is divided into separate areas for tents, caravans and campervans all with electricity. Barbeques are available for guests and 250 meters through the forest you come to a lovely swimming pool, a playing area for the children is also in the area and 2 football fields are a stone throw away.
Hiking trails: Easy walks are around the forest and neighbourhood, or for the more experienced you can hike up MŠlifellshnj˙kur, Tindastˇll or Glˇafeykir. Museums, churches and places of historical interest and importance are located nearby, and for the more adventurous horse riding, horse shows, river rafting and paintball operators are within a walking distance to name but a few of the attractions in the area.
In VarmahlÝ 500 meters down the hill you'll find all the practicals, including the Tourist information centre, restaurant, supermarket, post office, gas station and bank.á
The camp sites in Saußrkrˇkur, Hofsˇs and VarmahlÝ are working together. You can therefore stay the first night in any of the three camp sites and the next night in one of the other campsites at a discount rate.
